Question: What is the volume of a 1.50 M solution if it contains 55 g of ammonium chloride?
You must use the following formula M = moles/Liters
But right now you don't have moles, you have grams.
- Use molar mass to convert g of NH4Cl to moles.
- molar mass from periodic table is
- 14.01 + (1.01*4) + 35.45 = 53.5 g
- Divide given mass by molar mass to get moles
- 55 g * (1 mol/53.5 g) = 1.03 mol
- Plug in values to M= mol/L and solve for L (volume)
- 1.50 = 1.03 mol/L
- 0.69 L (rounded to 2 sig figs)
