Hello!
So if you have a solution that contains a strong base like hydroxide, we can figure out the pH by first finding the pOH using this equation:
pOH = -log [OH-]
pOH = -log(8.30 x 10^-5)
pOH = 4.08
Okay so we got our pOH so now lets figure out the pH and with this equation:
pH + pOH = 14
pH + 4.08 = 14
pH = 9.92
Now does our answer makes sense? Well our answer above 7 which we expect for a solution that contains hydroxide. Hope this helps!
