Howdy, Emily!
The word "ineo" can be used in a variety of ways. Though it literally means to physically enter something, it can be used figuratively to enter upon something new or to begin. The Lewis and Short lexicon mentions examples like "inire bellum", to enter a war and "inire magistratum", to enter into office.
