The cost of your graphics depends on what your objective is, as well as what era of Mario you are talking about. If you are making a 2D platformer with 2D graphics, then a large amount of you're budget would go to things like sprites and 2D pixelated art. If your game has 3D elements, then you would pay a large amount of you're budget on models. There sadly is not an answer or a specific number you could put on something specific like that because it depends on too many factors that this post would become a novel. To give you somewhat of an idea my game uses 3D models and I spend about $40-$60 per character model. For backgrounds, I usually spend about $80-$120. These numbers are different depending on who you ask.
