To calculate between moles and grams, you will need the molar mass of the molecule in question. You can calculate the molar mass of a molecule by adding up the atomic masses of each atom within the molecule. Check a periodic table for the atomic masses.
In this case, the molar mass of MgCl2 is 95.211 g/mol. We got this by adding the atomic masses of the one Mg atom and two Cl atoms. 24.305 + 2(35.453) = 95.211.
So one mole of MgCl2 is 95.211 g. We are given 24.6 g.
To find moles, take the mass and divide by the molar mass.
24.6 g x 1 mol/95.211 g = ~0.258 mol.
We have approximately 0.258 mol MgCl2.
