covalent bonds - shared electrons
ionic - transferred electrons
solid, liquid, or gas at room temperature goes along with low melting point
In general, both ionic and covalent compounds are poor conductors of electricity.
Salt water is very conductive, because NaCl dissolves into Na+ & Cl- . The ions in the water are responsible for electrical conductivity. PURE water is not a good conductor of electricity (Besides, while water is a covalent compound/molecule, it's bonds are technically 'polar covalent', which is why it can dissolve salts (ionic compounds) .
- solid, liquid, or gas at room temperature
high electrical conductivity- low melting point
-
high melting point solid only at room temperature- low electrical conductivity
