Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
10 by 16 = 160 in^2 for the painting
(10+2(3))(16+2(3)) = 16(22) = 352 in^2 which is 16 inches by 22 inches
the area of the mat alone = 352-160 = 198 in^2
HARIS B.
asked 05/25/22Amy is choosing framing materials for a watercolor painting that is 10 inches tall by 16 inches wide. She wants to use a mat that will be the same width on all sides. Write expressions for the length and width of the matted painting. Write and simplify an expression for the total area of the matted painting. If she uses a 3-inch wide mat what dimensions for the matted painting will she use to order her frame? What is the total area of the matted painting? What is the area of only the mat?
