FIRST make sure your calculator can do the following:
if you enter:
log10(0.01)
the answer should be "-2"
if you enter:
-log10(1×10-5)
the answer should be "5"
if you enter:
10-5.37
the answer should be "0.00000426579518802" which is equal to "4.26579518802×10-6"
Okay, now, use these 6 equations:
- pH= -log10[H+]
- note, for all of these equations, [H3O+] and [H+] are conceptually and mathematically identical.
- [H+]=10-pH
- pOH= -log[OH-]
- [OH-]=10-pOH
- pH+pOH=14
- [H+][OH-]=10-14
Those equations will solve all of your problems.
