Hi Ak F.! In my knowledge as an anthropologist, most social scientist take three approaches to understanding society: Functionalism, Symbolism, and Conflict theory. Functionalism essentially explains that all social structures serve a purpose to creating an ideal society, whatever that may be, and preserving its order, tradition, and functioning. Symbolism views society as a system of signs, words, and exchanges that shape the way we think, view, and understand the world, and thus the world we produce from those ideas and perspectives. Lastly, conflict theory focuses on power and survival. Conflict theory proposes that societies are created to uphold inequality. It balances pre-existing powers and traditions in order to maintain order.
Hope this helps!
