6.42 m/s strikes a 1.60 kg bowling

pin at rest. After, the pin moves

14.8 m/s at a -47.0° angle. What

is the x-component and y-component of the ball's

final velocity?

Use Conservation of Momentum ... Mom_i = Mom_f ... this is a vector equation !

6.42(7.5)= 14.8*1.6*cos(-47)+7.5V_bfx thus V_bfx=4.27 m/s ... x component of ball and pin momentums

0=14.8*1.6sin(-47)+7.5Vbyf thus Vbyf = -2.31 m/s ... y component of ball and pin momentums
