A) How many calories of heat are released when 500 grams of steam at 120°C are converted to ice at -4.0°C?
B) A swimming pool is 4.0 meters wide and 10 meters long and has a depth of 1.5 meters. it is filled to the top with water at 16°C. How much heat must be added to bring the temperature of the water to 32°C?

A).The process is the following: 0.5 kf of steam change its phase from gas to liquid, then from liquid to solid (ice).
∆Qtot= csteammsteam(1200-1000) +msteamLVapor +msteamcwater(1000-00) +msteamLF +msteamcice(00 +40)
cwater=1.00 kcal/kg0C; d=1000 kg/m3; LF=79.8 kcal/kg LV=539.9 kcal/kg
Now, plug in the numerical in equition to get numerical answer.
B). At first, you need to calculate the mass of the poll’s water Mwater=Vdwater=(4.0∙10∙1.5 m3)103 kg/m3=60,000 kg
Q= cwaterMwater(32 0-160)=

hi A-you need to add five quntatys of heat 1- heat released to cool steam from 120 c to100 c use Q= c steam ×m× (120-100) ---------------------2-heat released to chang phase from steam to liquid in the same degree use Q= c (condensation)× m .-------3-heat to cool water from100c to 0c . use the equation Q =c ×m×(100-0) --‐----------------------------- 4-heat released to change phase from water to ice use Q= c (melting) ×m ---------------5- heat to cool ice from 0c to -4 use Q=c ice ×m×(0-(-4)) .---------------the mass m is 0.5 kg ,find all the constants from your textbook. the answer will be in joules convert it to calories.03/03/22
