On a certain hot​ summer's day, 401 people used the public swimming pool. The daily prices are 1.25 for children and 2.50 for adults. The receipts for admission totaled 625.00. How many children and how many adults swam at the public pool that​ day?

625 = 1.25C + 2.5A

C + A = 401

401(1.25) = 401 + 100.25 = 501.25 = 1.25C + 1.25A

subtract last equation the 1st equation to get

1.25A = 123,75

A = 123.75/1.25 = 99 adults

C = 401 -99 = 302 children
