f(x+h) - f(x)
= the net change in the function's value or net change in output
for a given change in input.
input=x, output = f(x), net change in input = h
for example, if f(x) = x^2
then for a change in x from 2 to 4
net change in output
= f(4)-f(2)
= 4^2 - 2^2
= 16 - 4
= 12
