The question told us that x + 3 = y. It also is asking us to solve for 2x + 6. Notice that if you multiply the x+3=y equation by 2, you get 2x+6.
----> 2 ( x +3 ) = 2 ( y )
----> 2x + 6 = 2y
So our answer is 2y.
