The larger of two numbers is two more than five times the smaller number. If the sum of the two numbers is 80, fund both numbers

Let L = larger number, S = smaller number

larger = 2 more than 5 times the smaller

L = 2+ 5S

sum = 80

L+S = 80

substitute 2+5S for L

(2+ 5S) + S = 80

5S+S +2 = 80

6S = 80-2 = 78

S = 78/6 = 13

L = 2+5(13) = 67

smaller number = 13, larger = 67
