Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
(9/8) to the 2nd power = (9/8)^2 = (9^2)/(8^2) = (9x9)/(8x8) = 81/64
that's the most simple way to do this problem and leave the answer as 81/64
or convert the answer to decimals, use a calculator, or do long division
81/64 = 1.265625
round off if you want to 1.3 or 1.27, but those are only approximations
use a calculator, push 9, the division operator, then 8, then square the result to get 81/64 or 1.265625
9/8 = 1.125. (1.125)^ = 1.125 x 1.125 = 1.265625
(9/8)^2 = (1.125)^2 = 1.125 x 1.125 = 1.265625
or (9/8)^2 = (1 1/8)^2 = 1 1/8 x 1 1/8 = 1 1/8 + (1 1/8 x 1/8) = 1 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/64 = 1 1/4 + 1/64 = 1 + 16/65 + 1/64 = 1 +17/64 = 1 17/64
= 64/64 + 17/64 = (64+17)/64 = 81/64
4 ways you could write the answer are
81/64, which is an improper fraction (numerator > denominator)
1 17/64 which is an integer plus a proper fraction (numerator < denominator)
or
1.265625 the equivalent of the fraction in decimal form
or
1.3 or 1.27 an approximation rounded to one or two decimal places
first 3 ways are exact solutions
