Notice that 27 = 33 and 9 =32. Then the equation can be written as:
(33)(x+2) = (1/32)2x+4. Using the properties (ab)c = abc and 1/ab= a-b:
33x+6 = 3-4x-8. Since we have the same base at both sides we can equate the exponents:
3x+6 = -4x -8. Adding 4x and subtracting 6 at both sides:
7x = -14. Dividing by 7:
x = -2

Notice my assumption of parenthesis, which students tend to overlook when typing on the computer. However, assuming that the +2 and the +4 are not part of the exponent, you are correct. Could you show how to obtain this answer anallitically?
