Should the processes of oxidation and reduction be taken into account when considering "the cathode and anode ray experiment"? The answer is no. When a filament (the cathode) is heated, electrons are ejected from the metallic filament when it reaches a enough temperature. No chemical process is involved as there is in oxidation-reduction type reactions; although both processes do involve electrons.
