problem number 2

Problem 2: What is the complete rate law equation for the overall reaction described by the elementary equations seen below. Assume that the rate constant for the overall reaction is 1400 mol L-1 min-1. Explain (using only words) how you would use the elementary reactions to create the equation without doing any math.

Shelly, I think there's a mistake in the elementary steps because they don't add up and they don't balance. Please check them again to be sure you have copied everything correctly.

Cl2 is an intermediate and as such should not appear in the rate equation? What are your thoughts on that?

In the overall reaction that I proposed, Cl2 is not an intermediate. The first reaction student gave isn't anything, so I gave a hypothetical.

I stated the rate law based on the equations that I assumed. The first equation is not right, so my answer was meant to be illustrative.
