Horsepower should remain the SAME. Horesepower is a quantity measuring how powerful your engine is. Horsepower is a unit of power (the basic SI unit for power is the Watt (W)). Specifically, horsepower measures the power generated to turn your cars wheels by measuring torque and engine speed. Changing the transmission, driveshaft, wheel size, etc. could have an effect on horsepower when using a dynamometer to measure the peak horsepower.
Example:
- Two cars with about the exact same engine and horsepower from Mazda.
- 2.5L Skyactive 4-cyl. 187 HP and 186 lb-ft torque
- Mazda3 Sedan (weight ~ 3100 lb) --> 0-60 acceleration = 7.1 seconds
- Mazda CX-5 (weight ~ 3600 lb) --> 0-60 acceleration = 8.1 seconds
