can we keep close mechanical stem trap for six hours out of twenty four hours to utilize steam

we have a boiler which produces 200 tons stesm per day. steam consumption is 150 tons per day. it means that we lost 50 tons of steam per day. i have checked all the steam lines. there is no leakage. in my point of view the problem is with the steam traps, which are full time open. the return of steam trap is to boiler in the form of condensate. our condensate recovery is about 40%.in this recovery steam is not include which is used in process.

what can we do to reduce the 50 tons difference?

If I understand your question correctly, you want to close the steam traps to conserve steam.  Remember, steam a thermal property of water.  Closing the steam traps will not save steam and may pose a safety issue.   Your real problem is heat loss.  You are losing 1/4 of your steam in the form of waste heat.

 

Your options are: 1) insulate your steam lines better, or 2) to shut down your steam system so that it is not trying to keep steam pressure in your lines.
