For f(x) = x/(x+1), x ranges over all real numbers except x = -1.  This can be written x ≠ -1. In interval notation, you could write x < -1 and x > -1.

 

For f(x) = 7/(x^₂ -5x + 6), the roots of the quadratic denominator are x = 2 and x = 3. You can write this as x < 2 and 2 < x < 3 and 3 < x.
