As with many movies some depictions are realistic whereas others are a little farther from the truth. An example that comes to my mind is the movie Split, which depicts someone struggling with a severe personality disorder where they assume different roles mentally while still being the same physical being. In some regard, the depiction of this personality disorder can be accurate, as the character goes to a psychiatrist/therapist, is diagnosed with a mental disorder, and clearly is emotionally involved with the people he claims to be portraying. Some examples within this movie where the depictions aren't quite true could be seen the how extreme the characters reactions are when he assumes the different personalities. For example, when the Split character becomes "the beast" he assumes super human strength, the ability to climb and stick on walls, and was unaffected by even bullets shot at point blank range.
