Subtracting the subtrahend from the minuend (those are the actual goofy terms for a subtraction: minuend - subtrahend = difference) leaves you with

 

2x² -9x -3 = 0.

 

The linear term is the term having x raised to the first power: -9x.

 

This does not factor easily. If you're not Niels Bohr*, I strongly recommend you use the quadratic formula.

 

The latter yields answers of x = 4.812 and x = -0.312. (I am not Niels Bohr either.)

I hope you tried it before asking into the forum.

 

(3x² -5x) - (x² + 4x +3) 

= 3x² - 5x - x² -4x -3

= 2x² - 9x -3

here a = 2, b = -9, c = -3 

 

now the above equation has 2 roots which can be calculated from below equation.

 

 −b ± sqrt[b2−4(a)(c)] / 2a
submit the values of a, b, c in the above equation. you will get

x= [9±sqrt(105)] / 4
