Answer this first: how many pounds of hay per day is the horse eating? Once you know that, add one day's worth of hay to the three-day total you're given and you're done. This is not how you were asked to solve the problem, but is a common-sense answer that can be used to check your answer from using the proportion.
Your proportion, in words, would be "12 pounds is to 3 days as X pounds is to 4 days." You should know how this gets written as an equation. Hint: use division where you see "is to" and equals where you see "as."
Fill out the table once you've solved for X. Use periods of 1, 2, 3, and 4 days in your table.
