How do I use ratios in a proportion?

cross multiply

4x=6*2

4x=12

First of all a proportion is the statement that two ratios are equal.

Your question, that x/6=2/4, is the same as x/6=1/2.  What divided by six is one half?

Multiply both sides of the proportion by 6 and have x=6×1/2 =3
