I would recommend practicing reading. It doesn't have to be practice CARS passages specifically, but it would be helpful if that was the case. Many of these passages are not science-based and none of them require outside information. You could simply read articles online about topics that you wouldn't normally read about. Then try to identify the main idea and tone. You can simplify many questions if you try to just find the answer that fits best with the main idea and tone. Finally, make sure you can do this quickly. I used the timing rule that I had 4 minutes to read and understand a passage and 1 minute for each question. This helped keep me on track and I practiced a lot to be able to read quickly to pick out the main idea and tone. I hope this helps!
