If you look at the first graph we have 3 units in the x direction and 4 units in the y direction

The resultant using Pythagoras is R²=3²+4² = 9 + 16 =25

The Square root of 25 is 5 so the Resultant is 5 units

If you look at the second graph we have 5 units in the x direction and 5 units in the y direction

The resultant using Pythagoras is R²=5²+5² = 25 + 25 =50

The Square root of 50 is 7.07 so the Resultant is approximately 7.1 units
