A cat chases a mouse across a 0.66 m high table. The mouse steps out of the way, and the cat slides off the table and strikes the floor 2.4 m from the edge of the table. The acceleration of gravity is 9.81 m/s 2 . What was the cat’s speed when it slid off the table? Answer in units of m/s.

We first find the time for the cat to fall using h=0.5gt^2 where h=0.66

Therefore t = 0.367 s

Horizontally the cat traveled 2,4 meters and there is zero acceleration in the horizontal direction

Using dist = velocity x time we know time and we know distance

2,4 = v (,367)

therefore v = 6.5 m/s
