Solution:
The equation for free falling bodies is y = -1/2 gt2 + v0t + y0 here y = 0, and y0 = 1.2m
Also vo = 0 initial velocity at rest. Substituting all of that 0 = -1/2 gt2 + 0 + 1.2 , 1.2 = 1/2 gt2 , 2.4 = gt2 and
t2 = 2.4 /g = 2.4 m / 9.81 m/s2 = 0.244 s2 , and t = √0.224 s2 = 0.494 approximately 0.5 s. Note that the mass of the egg does not affect the time of the free fall.
