Starting from rest (stationary) a train accelerates at 2 meters per second squared and travels 100 meters. How long does this take?

where "x" is the distance traveled, "v_i" is the initial velocity, "t" is the time it takes, "a" is the acceleration. We are told that x = 100 m, v_i = 0 (starts from rest), and a = 2 m/s².

100 = (0)t + 1/2(2)t²

100 = t²

t = √100 = 10 seconds
