In the metric system. The basic units of measurement are the units that do not have a prefix in front of them.
a) length--meter
b) volume--liter
c) mass-gram
d) temperature--celsius
Often these units are seen with prefixes such as "milli-" or "centi-" or "kilo-", all of which are used to designate a unit of measure that is a factor of 10, either larger or smaller, than the basic units.
