Applying SImple Math to Everyday Life Activities
Scales are used in drawings to represent proportional sizes of the actual product being built. This is because there is limited space on paper to draw in actual size of what needs to be built. Scales are often utilized in architectural and construction projects.
Since we have different units, we must convert. We will convert meters to centimeters.
1 m = 100 cm
Let scale drawing of length = 10 cm
Let scale drawing of width = 8.5 cm
Let actual length = 40 m = 4000 cm
Let actual width = 34 m = 3400 cm
Next will take the ratios of length and width to find the scale for the drawing.
Ratio of length = 4000 cm / 10 cm = 40 cm
Ratios of width = 3400 cm / 8.5 cm = 400 cm
The scale that could be used for the drawing is 40 cm by 400 cm.
