A gas is found to have a pressure of 598.609 mm ahh. Calculate the pressure of this gas in atmosphere. (Atm)
1 Expert Answer
To convert pressure units, you use the definition of atmospheric pressure in the various units.
1 atm = 760 mmHg or Torr
Given atm you multiply by 760 mmHg/ 1 atm
Given mmHg you multiply be 1 atm/760 mmHg
Cancelling units is the best way to convert!
Atmospheres are special in that conversions are easy because atmospheric pressure is 1 atm. Given atmospheres you multiply be 1 atmosphere in other pressure units. To get a pressure in atmospheres you divide the pressure by the pressure of 1 atm in those units.
