Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
3 eggs for 1 1/2 = 1.5 cups of flower
12 cups of flour will combine with 12/1.5 = 8 x 3 = 24 eggs
3 is twice 1 1/2
24 is twice 12
what fraction of the 3 eggs did he use? 24 = 8 times 3 eggs
the "fraction" is an improper fraction > 1
the improper fraction is 8/1
or 24/3
the ratios (fractions) are the same
1 1/2: 12 or 1.5/12 = 3/x solve for x
1/8 = 3/x
cross multiply, x=24
8/1 = 24/3 is the fraction of 3 eggs the baker used
That's an odd answer. are you sure you copied the problem correctly. The form of the question sort of suggest a proper "fraction" <1 as the answer.
