Question: A chemical reaction absorbs energy when occurring. Is this reaction Exothermic or Endothermic? If the enthalpy of the reactants was 300kJ and the enthalpy of the products was 450kJ, list one possible value for the enthalpy value of the transition state (the activation energy).

I agree that the reaction is endothermic.

A possible value for the energy of the transition state (activation energy) will be any value greater than 450 kJ.

Being able to draw a graph here would help the explanation, but I am unable to draw a graph here. However, the activation energy will be greater than either the energy of the reactants or the energy of the products.

If a reaction is absorbing energy it's endothermic, if reaction is releasing energy its exothermic. Remember EXO thermic has energy EXITING it.
