This is a combined gas law problem. The equation we can use is:
T1 / P1V1 = T2 / P2V2
The other thing we must do is convert Celsius temperature to Kelvin temperature. Always use Kelvins when working gas law problems. As you probably know, we change Celsius to Kelvin by adding 273 to the Celsius temperature.
213.7 K / (0.74 atm)(11.6 L) = T2 / (1.17 atm)(5.9 L)
T2 = 172 K
If the problem wants the answer in degrees Celsius, then convert 172 Kelvin to degrees Celsius.
