the larger of the two numbers is 3 more than three times the smaller. The difference of the larger number and the smaller number is 9. Find the numbers.

L-S = 9

L=9+S

9+S = 3+3S

2S =6

S =3 = the smaller number

L=12 = the larger number

12-3 = 9

12 =3+3(3)
