This roughly corresponds to Buridan's Ass, which refers to a hypothetical situation wherein a donkey that is equally hungry and thirsty is placed precisely midway between a stack of hay and a pail of water. Since the paradox assumes the donkey will always go to whichever is closer, it dies of both hunger and thirst since it cannot make any rational decision between the hay and water
Choice originates in our inner world of values and ideas so a virtual world is an irrelevant point. So before any actual choice would be thoughts like
1) Maybe I don't want to participate in this world at all
2) If forced to choose I can simply do so randomly by roll of dice.
I know several thinkers who would dispute the entire setup. Neurosurgeon Michael Egnor argues from his experience with people choosing when their brains were stimulated.
