Depends on what quality extension cord you have. Most cheap extension cords are 16 guage, and intended for 13 A maximum. Air conditioner 110V systems generally use 12 guage wiring, rated for 20 A maximum. You may find that your extension cord runs hot (potential fire hazard) and that your compressor is voltage-starved (which can make it run inefficiently). If you haven't burnt it out yet, I don't think you will. Kind of ironic if you're trying to refrigerate, but space-heating with your extension cord, though?
