I think you have an extra "times" in the second sentence
Let X = first number
Let Y = second number
One number is 7 less than a second number ==> X = Y - 7
6 times the first is 2 more than 2 times the second ==> 6*X = 2 + 2*Y
Substitute the value for X from the first equation in to the second equation
6*(Y - 7) = 2 + 2*Y
6*Y - 42 = 2 + 2*Y
4*Y = 44
Y = 11
So X = 11 - 7 = 4
