Need help deciding where to go to college!

Question

I know I should look at academics, financial aid, etc., but besides that what is important in your opinion?

I'm deciding between a small liberal arts school in Massachusetts and UCLA.

Your two targeted colleges are very different. Consider:

-- size of first year classes

-- what type of learner are you? Larger classes, little interaction with the professors, smaller classes, more of a personal touch.

-- look at the school not the reputation. look at the departments that have what you want as you consider majors, not necessarily the one with the overall reputation. I worked at Boston U for many years. The College of Communication was in the top 5 in the country, but the overall school reputation was just fair.

-- read up on pros and cons on how to research colleges. Niche is a good start.

For instance, are you considering to study far from home, or to attend a university closer to your friends and family. Hi Dakotah,

Lots of factors go into choosing where to apply to college. In addition to the reasons you mentioned: location can be important (based on your geographic preferences thereof), culture and size (small vs. large, rural vs. urban, private vs. network colleges and universities, 2-year community colleges vs. 4-year universities)--all play a role in applicants' decisions as to where to set their focus. Sometimes, people also base their choices on where their longtime friends may be applying to, and/or if they have any family members who are alumni of any given colleges or universities.
