an ice cream package is cone shaped it has a radius of 5.5 cm and a diagonal of 17cm find the height of the cone first then the volume of the icecream cone

The height of the cone, H, can be found using the Pythagorean theorem  as follows:

 

 H² + (5.5)²   =  17²       Solving gives  H =  16.09 cm.

 

 The formula for the volume of a cone is   (1/3) H x (area of the base).

   The area of the base is π (5.5)² =  95.03

 

   So the volume is   509.7  cm³

volume = 1/3 x 3.14 x r^2 x height          a^2 + b^2 = c^2       height^2 + 5.5^2 = 17^2

 

height^2 = 17^2 - 5.5^2        height^2 = 289 - 30.25      height^2 = 258.75       height = 16.09cm.

 

volume = 1/3 x 3.14 x 5.5 x 16.09      volume = 92.6cm^3
