the 1st equation is downward sloping with slope = -2 and y intercept -7
the 2nd equation is upward sloping with slope = +1 and y intercept of +8
the 2nd equation is equivalent to y = x+8, the 2nd is y=-2x-7
set them equal: x+8 = -2x-7
3x = -15
x = -5
y= 3
the two lines intersect at the point (-5,3) in quadrant II
