call the number of girls "g" and the 3 more boys "g + 3"

 

g + g + 3 = 41

 

2g = 38

 

g = 19

 

therefore b = 22.

 

19 girls plus 22 boys = 41 members.

let x=# of girls   then x+3= # of boys    x+ (x+3)=41  2x+3=41  subtract 3 from both sides 2x=38

divide both sides by 2   x=19  x+3=19+3=22     19 girls 22 boys
