Question

The area of the Sahara Desert is 7 times the area of the Gobi Desert. If the sum of their areas is 4,000,000 square miles, find the area of each desert.

Hi Krystal--

 

Call the Gobi "g"

 

And since the Sahara is 7 times as big, call it "7g"

 

The two together, or g + 7g, equal 4 million, or

 

8g = 4,000,000

 

Which means g = ... can you do it from here?
