Math and science made easy - learn from a retired engineer
C3H8 has a molar mass calculated as follows:
Carbon: 12.011 x 3 = 36.033 g/mol
Hydrogen: 1.008 x 8 = 8.064 g/mol
36.033 + 8.064 = 44.097 g/mol
The number of moles of C3H8 is calculated by dividing 44g and the 44.097 g/mol to get 0.9978 moles.
Each mole of C3H8 has 6.022 x 1023 molecules in it so there are (0.9978)(6.022 x 1023) = 6.00889 x 1023 molecules of C3H8 and each one has 3 atoms of carbon in it so the number of atoms of carbon is:
(3)(6.00889 x 1023) = 1.8 x 1024 atoms
