The volume of the solute (alcohol) is 30 mL. The volume of the solvent (water) is 20 mL so, after you mix the two together, the volume of the solution = volume of the solute + volume of solvent = 30 + 20 = 50 mL.
The percent by volume of the alcohol is the volume of the alcohol divided by the volume of the solution (x 100 to turn it to a percent) = 30/50 = 60%
