Sal's Packages on the Go mail 6 packages with a mean weight of 7.1 pounds. Suppose the mean weight of five of these pakcages is 6.3. What is the weight of the 6th package?

Mean weight = Total Weight / Number of packages

 

So the Total Weight = (Mean weight) * (Number of packages)   

 

For the 6 packages the total weight is 7.1 * 6 = 42.6

 

For the 5 packages the total weight is 6.3 * 5 = 31.5 

 

The weight of the 6th package is the difference between these totals, 

 

42.6 - 31.5 = 11.1 pounds
