As you have 1 mole of each compound, all you need to do is add up the atomic masses of all the atoms in a compound (use periodic table). The compound with the greatest molecular mass is the answer.

Hello Elizabeth, To approach this problem you will want to first determine the molar mass (grams/mole) of each of the compounds given. I'll walk through how to do this for part A. NBr3 is the chemical formula. It contains one nitrogen (N) and 3 bromine atoms (Br) indicated by the subscript following the symbol for bromine. Once you have determined how many atoms of each different kind of element in the compound, then it is time to pull out a periodic table to look up the atomic mass for each element. N: 1 x 14.00 g/mol = 14.00 g/mol Br: 3 x 79.90 g/mol = 239.70 g/mol --------------------------------------------------- sum (14.00 + 239.70) = 253.70 g/mol As shown above, multiply the atomic mass by the number of atoms of that element, then add the totals together. After you have performed this calculation for each of the other options, you will be able to determine which is the largest. I hope that helped! Thea01/19/21
